You don't want to make the wrong choice when it comes time to buy your survival knife. I'm old school and prefer a good old fashioned KA-BAR USMC Utility Knife. They've been around since WWII and are probably the most used utility knife on the planet—and for good reason. They're durable, hold an edge well and are easy to sharpen when they start to go dull. You could sharpen one with a smooth stone if you had to.

Get a good knife and learn how to use, sharpen and wear it. You might even want to learn how to properly use it in a combat situation. You wouldn't be the first person who fought off an attacker with a KA-BAR.
